NISAKU - HORI HORI JAPANESE GARDENING KNIFE WITH SHEATH

The tool known as the "wild vegetable digging/leisure knife" is said to have its roots in the tools used by the "Matagi," people who hunted in the mountains.
Interestingly, it seems that they originally used tools made by sharpening bamboo, and not derived from bladed tools.
The curved shape of this tool is said to have been based on the shape of bamboo, not on a shovel or spade.
